Power of Prayer

Power of Prayer

I wanted to share an experience I had this week with prayer.

Often times, taking the first steps to pray can be scary. You can feel very awkward and lost. You might not even feel like you’re talking to anyone besides yourself. But I know that each prayer we say is heard by our Father in Heaven that loves us more than we can even imagine. As we take those first steps to get on our knees and pray, we will be blessed so much with the spirit and answers will come.

This week I sat in a dimly lit room as someone who has become a dear friend offered their first verbal prayer. It was difficult to begin. They were scared and nervous and felt very awkward. But the second the words, “Heavenly Father,” came out of their mouth, the room was completely filled with the spirit. I could feel the love our Heavenly Father had for them and how proud He was for them making this big step of faith. It was such an indescribable feeling. My heart was so full.

Just as Alma 33:11 says in the Book of Mormon, “thou didst hear me…because of my sincerity”. I know even better than I did before that God hears our prayers. He hangs on every word. He understands what is in our heart and He wants to answer us and allow us to feel his love. I know it can be awkward and scary to begin to pray but I promise you it is so worth it. Miracles don’t happen when we are in our comfort zone. We need to take those leaps of faith knowing that God is supporting us and with us just waiting to bless us and fill our hearts. I am so grateful to have been a part of this incredible experience. I am so happy to be a missionary and to be able to help people take these steps and realize the immense love our Heavenly Father has and his constant presence and support.
