Thank Heavens for Hard Weeks
Some weeks are absolutely incredible and so many amazing things happen. Other weeks, your faith, patience, and trust in all humanity is tested. Sometimes it feels like Satan is really just pulling out all the stops to destroy you – like he is using his best and hardest tricks on you. This week kinda felt like that. It felt like no matter how many times we got up, Satan was one step ahead of us knocking us down. It was hard. Like it was really a tough week. But you know what, I have learned so much this week, received so many answers and pure revelation, and I have come so much closer to my Heavenly Father. I now understand Heavenly Father and his ways of working even better. I knew that every trial we faced had a reason. I knew we were not suffering just to suffer. I knew that there was a greater principle to be learned from all of this, and if we had the faith and willingness to press on and seek those answers, miracles would come of it.
So what happened??? That doesn’t matter haha!! Maybe I will tell you in 8 weeks? But, just know that Sister Bascom and I were put in all different types of situations we never predicted would come our way. (Don’t worry Mom. We are safe and very happy.) we know that the Lord protects his diligent servants and there is no need to fear. We have complete trust in the Lord. Needless to say, it was a hard week.
All that said, I am forever grateful for this hard week. Many lessons were learned and I we grew so much. The Book of Mormon prophet Nephi says, “He doeth not anything save it be for the benefit of the world; for he loveth the world, even that he layeth down his own life that he may draw all men unto him. Wherefore, he commandeth none that they shall not partake of his salvation. Behold, doth he cry unto any, saying: Depart from me? Behold, I say unto you, Nay; but he saith: Come unto me all ye ends of the earth…” 2 Nephi 26:24-25
I am so certain that everything happens for a purpose. God is never going to set us up to fail or be sad. God will never forsake us. I know that in our hard times, He is there. Christ is right there with us too. Walking each step with us or even sometimes carrying us. You may feel abandoned in your trials, but he is there with you. You may question why he might let something happen or make you go through something difficult, but he is there and has a very distinct reason that has a positive purpose. If you allow it, each day you can grow closer to God, no matter how terrible the day might seem.
So, these seemingly big roadblocks in our week turned into stepping stones as we changed our perspectives. We have the choice to let adversity hinder us or help us. We were very negative for much of the week and often asked “why?”. The why is clear to us now. We see the true miracles behind all our struggles and we know that the miracles to come because of it. He will never let allow us suffer for no reason. I feel so refreshed and energized now. Like we just fought a war and now we can slow down for a second, breathe, and see what we really accomplished.
We also had many great things happen this week! Yesterday, we had an incredible youth fireside. All the missionaries gave workshops to the youth on how to do missionary work and how to prepare to serve a full time mission. There was such a fire behind everyone. The Spirit really was there so strong motivating us all. The youth of this day and age are so special. This is a time where Heavenly Father really needs the youth to step us. Our Prophet, President Nelson, was right when he said “you are among the best the Lord has sent to this world”.
Finally, today we got to go on a hike!!! It was so fun! It was a very steep hike haha! I died. Then, at the top, we had a zone pep talk! It talk was super motivating and we really felt the Spirit.
Also, random thing, haha! Sister Bascom and I decided to have a beach day. So we just edited some pictures so we could pretend we went! It cracks us up every time we look at them!!
